Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

A glimpse of us!

Five years ago...

my Baby Boy was born. Oh, it was the sweetest day ever. I had been huge and pretty uncomfortable for months and was READY for "it" to come out. Off we went at 4:30 in the morning to make the drive into south Austin for our scheduled c-section. Things went pretty good and...

At 7:47 am they announced "It's a BOY!" and I couldn't have been more excited. I had hoped and hoped for a boy. I immediately shed a few tears and probably had the biggest smile on my face that I had ever made. He was gorgeous and perfect and I was the happiest woman ever.

The months that followed were challenging and I thought I was going to lose my mid with his colic and reflux problems BUT EVENTUALLY he quite screaming and we all started enjoying each other a lot more. :0)

He has grown into a boy that I just love with every ounce of me. I could lay in his bed and breathe him in all night long...I just can't get enough of him! I really do think sometimes that maybe I kiss on him too much but I can't help myself and I truly ache to hold him. He is such an amazing gift from God and I am so happy He has loaned him to us. :0)

Happy 5th Birthday my Baby Boy.

We started "Caleb Day" with his new "FAVORITE cereal" (Frosted Flakes) for breakfast then McD's for lunch, pizza for dinner, and then Baskin Robbins for dessert.

In between was shopping for his present he could pick out and playing with it a LOT (Better Batter Baseball!... we've been hearing about it for months!)

It was a perfect Caleb Day.

By the end of his day he was wiped out (despite the amount of sugar he had consumed!) and fell asleep quickly.

It was wonderful to celebrate his birthday with just the family. The party will be tons of fun too and I am pretty sure he will enjoy it more than today but it was neat to have a day with just us.

I just can't believe he is already FIVE!

Sacrificial Ferns

Too bad none of my neighbors read my blog because I am SURE that my HOA president is just gnawing her fingernails to nubs at the eyesores on my front porch. I am pretty sure that I often annoy our HOA president (and other HOA abiding neighbors) when I don't bring the trashcans back in within 24 hours, don't have them completely out of eyesight, haven't weeded the flower garden, and sometimes have numerous children's toys that are left in our front yard. For all of those things, I don't have any excuses other than laziness and lack of caring.
BUT for my ferns... well, I would get huffed-up (much like a momma bird) if confronted about those.

Are they dead? Oh yes.
Are they ugly? Indeed.

But

They are homes.

EVERY year we have birds build nests in our ferns.
EVERY year.

When one set of eggs hatch, babies grow, and then fly away... a new set of eggs appears.

There are two hanging ferns.

Each fern has so far supplied homes to 3 sets of baby birds. THIS YEAR ALONE!

Yep, we've been proud "parents" to six sets of baby birds this year.

In years past I would try to keep the ferns alive with watering them.
I would try to gently spray them down.

Last year I was filling them with water from the hose~GENTLY~ and out plopped a baby bird! The water just floated that baby right over the edge!

So
not anymore.
Now the ferns just die.

I'm ok with that.
I hope they are too.

I hate to think that they're not getting as much shade as they'd like or may need. (the birds that is)
I think I'll buy some artificial ones next year. (the ferns of course!)

Even I did...

I said before that I am feeling like a true blogger now in that I am surfing blogs and lovin' what I find! It's so much fun and so much of what I have found is truly inspiring.

Here is a story that I found.
It touched my heart and stays within my thoughts. Now, I'm not a crier... any of you that know me know that I'm not. I just don't cry often. BUT even I cried at this.

As a mom I think one of the hardest things to try to describe is your love for your child(ren).
I know that before I was a mom many people talked about it and told me "just wait and see, it's a love like no other." and I thought to myself "Yeah, ok...".

Now I am a mom
and it is so very true.

This story touches that place in all of us. That place that knows we would do the exact same thing for our child and indeed be praying the entire time that our child be kept safe and alive. I love the visual it brings to my mind...in a prayer position to pray AND keep your child safe.

I have no doubt that God did exactly as that mom asked and His hands wrapped around the baby, entered the man's mind to make him turn back, and kept that cell phone text going so the baby and the entire world would have even more proof of the mom's love.

What an amazing story.
(no, I did not "snoop" it to check it's validity) I want to believe it is true so I will go with that. :0)

Happy Sunday!

I just can NOT fathom...

I guess I am becoming more of a blogger because I am traveling within blogs a lot lately and I am thrilled with the journeys I have gone on and what I have learned on those trips. One blog leads me to another and then to another and I find myself being inspired, shocked, touched, and educated on things and thoughts "out there".
Here is one that I stumbled (happily) upon last night that I can NOT get out of my brain. Seriously, check it out. Read it. Ponder it.

Can you imagine?

If you can, tell me how! I can NOT. Seriously,

100 things?

I understand and appreciate simplicity. I truly do. I am not a pack ratter, I am not a hoarder. I get rid of things easily, often too easily. What my kids get for the birthday and Christmas is mostly gone by the next birthday or Christmas. Only the things that they play with...OFTEN...at least a few times a week...remain. The rest is given away. To my dismay I have learned though that toys are recommended for ages much younger than they should be. If my child got it for their first birthday and it said "1 year" on it... well, chances are it's gone by the time they are 2, if not younger. Then they see that toy later in life and LOVE it. Sadly, their's is already gone. Alas, I regress....

100 things.
really?
think about that for a minute...

While I am not a keeper of tons of things, I still have plenty I could do without and plenty I aim to do without. I am a STUFFER. I STUFF things anywhere and everywhere. It's not that I am completely unorganized because I know where that stuff has been stuffed. But I am lazy in that I don't take the time to box, organize, contain, etc. I simply stuff. This leads to stuffed closets that then get emptied in my frustration at feeling over stuffed!

I love this line from the article "'I need to get some control over my life, even if it is just a tidy kitchen counter.'" While I don't feel like my LIFE is out of control, I despise how the state of my closet weighs on me. It truly bogs me down and it's like a thorn in my side.

Here are some photos for thoughts on this...
(and NO, I will NOT be posting a photo of my closet until I think and am prepared to tackle that project) (and that will take a few days on both parts!)

my junk drawer is an example...there are probably 100 things in this drawer alone. Now it's a good example of what needs to be thrown out, organized, and just gotten rid of. Indeed it is called a JUNK drawer for a reason. I can understand getting rid of this stuff and it doesn't bother me a bit. (and I WILL do it)

but then there are things like this

do you really get rid of books?

I mean, 100 things.
really?

I must own 100 Christmas decorations alone.
While shoes and clothes aren't really a problem for me, PHOTOS are....

so do you categorize?
My hubby suggested 100 things per room?
per cateogory?
per person?

can YOU fathom it?

what can you get rid of?
What areas in your home or even life are stuffed where a clean sweep could do wonders?
is it your closet?
is it your daily activities?
is it your child's activities?
is it your prayer time?

we can help each other through this...
right?

So funny, so true

Here's the thing...I've thought and thought about ways to reward/punish myself for working out/not working out. I've come up with a lot of things and am pursuing some of them. My Sista and I are going to do one together. Bianca and I have "challenged" ourselves and will reward accordingly, and last but not least...I have finally come up with a daily one for myself. It is more of a punishment than a reward and it occurred to me quite naturally.
If you know me, you know I LOOOOVE sweet tea. I believe any TRUE Southern gal drinks sweet tea (REAL sweet tea~that means REALLY sweet and none of that instant stuff). (My Sista is currently rolling her eyes at this because I have always teased her for her drinking of UNsweet tea...the heathen!)
So here it is...if I don't exercise, I don't get any sweet tea. That's it. Plain and simple. And....very convincing. It doesn't ALWAYS work because I have learned to stop making sweet tea at home (that was reason number one for the weight I have gained in the past 1.5 years) so I only get it when I am out and about. But there is a Sonic right down the road and although their sweet tea is a hit-and-miss on its quality/taste, they DO have "Happy Hour, 1/2 price drinks" every day from 2-4. I have also been known to drive through Bill Miller's or McDonald's just for sweet tea. It's NOT as good as homemade but it keeps me from drinking a gallon a day!

(and Bill Miller has great

sweet tea..at only $.50 for
this cup's refill!)

So today I did NOT jog (Caleb was up 4 times last night..which means so was I...from 2-5 am) that means I am doing EXTRA Pilates tonight because..well, I already had some sweet tea today! So now I HAVE to exercise!
works for me!

Oh...and here is a link to a post (whose blog I think is FABulous!) who sounds just like me when it comes to sweet tea. I cracked up reading this post and was thrilled to see two things: 1~ my thoughts, reasoning, and ideas of sweet tea are not unheard of and 2~that I make sweet tea the exact same way she says to!

Every Minute of Every Day...

About Me

cajungal01
Here I am finding myself getting closer to "middle aged" and loving life more and more. I think I learn more about myself each year and while some things I find a bit discomforting (and will work on), others I am proud of. I love how the Lord works in all of us constantly and as we each pass through various seasons of our lives he sends different people... some as mentors, some to mentor, and some to walk parallel with. I look forward to each day and what He brings with it.
